In my Porsche 959 vs. McLaren M14A review, I introduced a new system for matching cars in the lower B-class bracket and below, in a more realistic way: I drive each car from beginning to end of the Classic Season league it belongs to, to see how much effort it takes to advance to the next league.
In this case, the cars are D-class, so I raced them on day #1 of Classic Season from 1000 points (Amateur League) to 1200+ points (Challenger League), and the car with the higher average points per race wins the review.
It looks like the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS was the undisputed king of the 1052 bracket. Everybody is using it, and probably for good reason. But can the DS 3 Racing make a statement and dethrone the champ? Or at least have a go at its chair legs?
Looks like I severely overestimated the DS 3. It permanently got out-nitroed and then wrecked, mostly by an EQS. Or it got bullied right at the start due to its slow acc. Especially against the EQS, the DS 3 has serious problems at the start. And as there are always so many of them, you factually always have a problem.
In a wheel-to-wheel fight with the EQS, you can choose between perfect nitro (you're dead immediately) or triple-tap (you're dead in a few hundred meters), unless you're lucky and have bad drivers as opponents. But on the same skill level, the DS 3 doesn't have the slightest chance against the EQS.
What can I say! Start-to-finish victories are not the exception but the rule with the EQS. Tracks like Transylvania or Patagonia with their long, fast corners are not fun. But it's not about fun, it's about winning races. And the EQS is an expert in this domain.
Most of the time, you can easily take the lead and don't even have to fight to keep it, you just need to lean back, relax and manage it. The only times you have to fight is when racing against other EQSs.
With its large drift radius, it feels quite heavy to handle, but the superb acc and nitro efficiency more than compensate this disadvantage. Also the top speed is slightly faster than most other cars' in the bracket.
Summary
I've no idea why I thought the DS 3 was a competitor for the EQS! ๐ณ The EQS is the irresistible force in the 1052 bracket. Which means a lot of people use it. Which means there's no real competition between the cars in the 1052 bracket, only competition between the EQS drivers. โน๏ธ
