My best car and only king in the 1502 bracket so far was the Lotus E-R9. But everybody kept on telling me that the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Anniversary Edition was even better. I mean, it wins the longest name contest already. And it has a hidden German flag in the rear light, which I think is great. ๐คฃ But is it also a top-tier racing car? Let's check that out!
Day #2 of Classic Season, from 1200+ points (Challenger League) to 1400+ points (Pro League), the car with the higher average points per race wins.
When starting from pos #1, a start-to-finish victory is quite easy with this car. The Mitsubishi feels very sovereign, it's almost ridiculous how good this car is. It outruns anyone in fast corners, but is sometimes not quite competitive enough when starting from the back of the grid.
But once you've taken the lead, you can keep anyone behind you, no matter what car or skill level, even if it's a Lamborghini Asterion driven by some alien. Only when the Mitsubishi runs out of nitro, which in fact happens sometimes, it can become critical. But even then, it's not completely helpless, like some other cars.
The Mitsubishi is an MP monster that is always hungry for competition, and it has rank 1500 cars like the Chevrolet Corvette C7 for breakfast. ๐
The Lotus is slower at the start and doesn't take a stand like the Mitsubishi in direct fights against other racers. But it offers good control, even on difficult tracks. The microdrift is easy to dose right, and it's also easy to defend your lead, even in Tokyo.
Which leads us to one big advantage of the Lotus compared to the Mitsubishi: the nitro efficiency. In one race, I've beaten one just by out-nitroing it.
And although I've mentioned it already, I need to say it again: The Lotus skis as if on rails, so it feels very safe to take the difficult routes where your competitors either crash or go around them bc they're afraid to crash. But "afraid" is a word that doesn't belong to the fearless E-R9's vocabulary, which adds to my confidence as its driver, too.
Summary
Even though the Mitsubishi's rank is higher and its driving experience is quite spectacular, I would always bet my money on the safe horse, the Lotus. But the Mitsubishi impressed me so much that it joined the Lotus on my list of kings in the 1502 bracket:
I'm curious to see what happens when I Pro my Beast X and Asterion. More on that in a future review. ๐
