After several TLE test drives with the McLaren Elva, I was so amazed with the car that I decided to obtain it for 5โฌ! In real MP competition, I was then not so sure any more. Can it dethrone my Chevrolet Corvette ZR1? Or is it yet another useless A class?
7 races in a row, Classic Season day #9, starting at 2078 points, full boosters
10 points for 1st place, 6 points for 2nd, 4 for 3rd, 3 for 4th, 2 for 5th and 1 for 6th
I must say, visually I find the Elva ugly as hell, probably due to the missing windscreen. But racing-wise, it's a good car, but with several little weaknesses: The acc is too bad to keep up at the start with the other A classes, and triple-tap nitro doesn't help much either; the Elva is really nice to drive when there are no opponents but too easily wrecked in direct fights; and it's too hard to keep opponents behind you, especially the frequently-used Chevrolet Camaro SS Independence Edition.
But it's also quite agile and very precise in drift and in drift-to-nitro transition, which is good for complicated combinations like in Terra 9 and for narrow city tracks like in Dubai or Munich. So the Elva is an absolute chocolate marshmallow when it comes to technique, but inferior on a straight line.
First of all, I've gotta repeat, I like them great nitro flames from that quad exhaust. ๐ But for its fantastic nitro efficiency, the ZR1 deserves this visual candy. With this car, you're triple-tapping all the way without ever running dry. With its acc, it has a start disadvantage against the SSIE, but due to its driving performace during the race, this doesn't matter much.
The ZR1 is a real fighter. Only the wide drift radius can be a problem when fighting 1:1 against other racers while in a corner. But once in the lead, no one can outrun you. Ever! I promise. ๐ค

Summary
I was in good shape with both cars, but got distracted in one race with the ZR1, which still couldn't stop it winning this review by points. So I must say, the Elva couldn't meet my high expectations. It's not a king like the ZR1, but still good enough for entering my best cars list. The sovereignity of the ZR1 is still unmatched by any of my other A classes. Maybe my currently-being-Proed Lotus Evija will make a difference! But honestly, I don't think so.
So I've learned my lesson the hard way: If a car is great in Free-Try, where you race against noobs who don't own a single A class, that doesn't necessarily mean it's worth spending real money. But the lesson itself was worth the money! ๐
