With a rank of 1232, both cars should be equally good and kings of the 1232 bracket. But as GL tends to nerf old cars over time in order to offer their new cars for real money, I wondered if the Donkey can still keep up with what I think is the best car in the bracket, the McLaren M14A.
I know, Classic season day #14 at ~1950 points is not really a challenge. But I just wanted to find out the tendency. I did 6 races in a row with each car at full boosters. Results:
Donkervoort D8 GTO
1st: 5 5th: 1 52/60 points
1st: 6 60/60 points
Both cars are absolutely superb. With their acceleration, they are built for start-to-finish victories. The weak spot of the McLaren is the full drift, which has a huge radius and makes it lose a lot of speed. This can cost you a position on tracks with big spirals like Terra 9 or Munich Subway. But in most other cases, the car is so agile that it is not even required to go into drift at all.
Same goes for the Donkervoort, although it is an awesome drifter, and it feels like it's a little better in terms of acceleration. But the acceleration is definitely needed at the start of the race, as in the rare cases when you get caught up in a battle with a heavier car - usually the Corvette C3 - you don't wanna sit in a fragile lightweight like the Donkervoort.
Summary: The Donkervoort is still great, but driving the McLaren, I felt much more confident to win 1-on-1 battles. In the last race, I even drove without Tuning Kit, and I still finished 1st.

The donkey also appears in my self-made Auto-Quartett, but in a slightly stronger version than the one that's used in A8's stock level:
